"Splish Splash Summer" is the August theme of Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30am for preschool aged children at the library and every Saturday, through October, at 10am at the Cortez Farmers Market on the corner of Elm and Main streets in Cortez. Older children are welcome to come for the Thursday craft at 11:15 a.m. Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and supports the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative. Pleasant View writer Lowell Volk to speak at the Mancos Public Library
The Mancos Public Library is sponsoring a reading and booksigning by Pleasant View writer Lowell Volk of his book titled "The Taylors' Civil War." This action-filled story is about the Taylor family, farmers in Virginia, and their struggle and hardship during the Civil War. Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race
The Dolores Rotary Club is holding the 12th Annual Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race. The race will start at 9:45 a.m. in front of the Dolores Medical Office on Central Avenue. There are cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in the Beginner, Sport, Expert, and Single Speed race classes. Register online at www.doloresrotary.org by August 13th or on the day of the race from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in front of the Dolores Medical Office. Entry fees are $25 for Beginners and Sport classes, and $30 for Experts. An additional $5 will be charged for same-day race registration. The Cortez Public Library’s Summer Reading Program runs from May 28th through August 21st. Kids record every 8 hours they read or are read to. When they reach each 8 hour point they get to come in and choose a book. At 40 accrued hours they get a prize, 80 hours a tee shirt. The Cortez Farmers' Market will host the Cortez Public Library's Saturday Storytime every Saturday at 9:30 am. It's a half hour of songs, stories and silliness.
