The Great Mancos Arts Roundup Artist Gathering

All artists creating or exhibiting work in the Mancos Valley are invited to gather on Wednesday, May 22nd from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Mancos Valley Visitor Center in downtown Mancos, and sign up for the Great Mancos Arts Roundup (an open studio tour for artists)scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd. Refreshments will be served.

4cast.tv, a new local online television station, will host a free, live music concert on Memorial Day, May 27th from noon-9pm, in Parque de Vida in downtown Cortez. Local bands performing include the Tim Sullivan Band, Rob Webster, Red Eyed Djinn, and The Moetones.

Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo Library Days

The Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo will be presenting Rodeo and Cowboy Days on Wednesday May 29th at the Dolores Library and Thursday May 30th at the Cortez Library, starting at 10:00 a.m. There will be stories, crafts, and an opportunity for the kids to have their picture taken on a manikin horse or to try their roping skills. Each child attending will receive a free rodeo and carnival ticket.

Montelores Outdoor Wild Learning Teacher Workshop

The Montelores Outdoor Wild Learning Teacher Workshop will be held June 18th through the 21st. Preschool through 12th grade educators are invited to this 4-day workshop focusing on using the outdoors as a lab for any subject. Ute Artifacts On Display

The public has until Sunday, June 2nd to view 12 Ute artifacts dating from the late 1800s at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum in Ignacio. The collection has been on-loan for two years from the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Museum hours and admission fees are on-line at succm.org.

Mesa Verde Paint Horse Club - Open Horse Show

The Mesa Verde Paint Horse Club is hosting an open horse show on Sunday June 2nd at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in Durango. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. and the show starts at 9:00 a.m. Classes will be Halter, Western, Reining, Trail, Leadline (for all those little kids), English and Jumping. Colorado Reads Book Drive

You can donate new and gently used childrens books for the Colorado Reads book drive from now until May 22nd. Books will be distributed to local children, to encourage summer reading. Book drop boxes are located at libraries in Cortez, Dolores, and Mancos, Dolores High School, Mancos Elementary School, 1st National Bank in Cortez, Empire Electric, the Mancos P&D, and Cortez City Service Center.
