Energy Workshop at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center on Monday February 6th

Colorado State University will hold a workshop on renewable energy at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center on Monday, February 6th from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Presenters will discuss energy audits, solar power applications, small hydropower generation, and the feasibility of biodiesel reactors for home or farm use. Independent Film Series at the Cortez Public Library

The Cortez Public Library is showing the independent film "Karen Cries on the Bus” on February 7th at 7:00 PM. This Columbian film follows a woman leaving her husband after 10 years, as she goes out into Bogata with no money, friends, or job, then takes her first steps toward independence and self-discovery.

The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society will present Susan Ryan to discuss The Albert Porter Pueblo Research Project on Tuesday, February 7th at 7:00 PM at the Cortez Cultural Center. Susan will summarize research at the Albert Porter great house and community, focusing on social differentiation and how the great house fits into the Chaco regional system.

A new Marijuana Anonymous group has formed in Cortez. Meetings take place Saturday mornings at 10:00am at Southwest Memorial Hospital in the conference room next to the gift shop. Anyone who thinks they have a problem with marijuana is welcome to attend.

Fishin is Fun matching grants

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Fishing Is Fun program has matching funds available to municipalities, counties, angler groups, and parks and recreation departments working on community-based projects that will benefit anglers. Funds can be used for activities such as improving fish habitat, developing ponds and lakes, and improving access points. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2012. “Baby, It's Cold Outside!” is the February theme of Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join in for the craft at 11:15 a.m. on Fridays.
