The City of Cortez is encouraging businesses to liven up their premises this summer by partially funding beautification projects.
According to a release, the Cortez Parks and Recreation Department will provide up to $500 in matching funds to Cortez businesses for landscaping or storefront improvements. Owners must fulfill a few requirements, like submitting photos of proposed plans and complying with existing land use codes. Materials and vegetation must also be purchased from Montezuma County businesses.

This comes as the City begins a major construction project. Cortez will begin median installation and alley reconstruction along Main Street starting Monday. Drivers can expect temporary lane closures in both directions and off-street parking until mid-October.
