Ex-FLDS Leader Lyle Jeffs Pleads Guilty to Food Stamp Fraud, Failure to Appear

Former polygamist leader Lyle Jeffs has pled guilty to two federal charges related to food stamp fraud. The Salt Lake Tribune reportsthe ex-bishop of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints pled guilty to defrauding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, on Wednesday. He had been accused of pressuring or ordering church members to turn over SNAP benefits to his Church. Jeffs also pled guilty to failing to appear in court after he used olive oil to slip out of an ankle-monitor bracelet before a hearing. He could serve three to five years in prison.
