McElmo Man Charged With Murder of His Mother

A 36-year-old Montezuma County man was being held Friday on a charge of first-degree homicide in the death of his mother. Sheriff Steve Nowlin says Jeremiah Damron is believed to have shot his mother, 62-year-old Kristie Damron, sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday. Nowlin says his office received a report about 10 a.m. Thursday about a possible shooting at the suspect's home on County Road 21.75, and found Kristie Damron dead in the backyard. Officers had been dispatched to the same residence early the evening before for a report of domestic violence and had taken Jeremiah Damron's wife and children from the home because she had been physically assaulted. They were obtaining an arrest warrant for him Thursday morning on charges of domestic violence when the call came in about the shooting.
