New Mexico’s senators are calling for an extension of the public-comment period for the new Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.
The comment period opened May 12th and is set to end May 26th, making it the shortest period for any of the more than two dozen national monuments under review by the Trump administration. The Navajo Times reports that Senator Martin Heinrich and Senator Mark Udall, both Democrats, have asked Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to give stakeholders a full 60 days to voice their views on Bears Ears.
