Two Arrested in Bloomfield, NM After Threats Against School

Threatening posts on social media late last week led to the evacuation of a school in Bloomfield, New Mexico, and the arrest of two suspects.

In a post on Facebook, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said local law enforcement was notified of a threatening post made on social media late Thursday night by a 17-year-old male who had been expelled from Charlie Y. Brown Alternative School. A 19-year-old male who had previously been removed from the school for truancy and even removed from school property for trespassing had posted a comment supporting the original threat. The school was evacuated and cleared Friday morning. In cooperation with the Bloomfield Police Department, both suspects were arrested and charged with interference with the educational process, a petty misdemeanor. The 19-year-old reportedly had two active warrants, one for failure to appear on a felony distribution charge, the other related to traffic violations.
