Utah Legislators Ask Trump to Undo Bears Ears Monument Designation

Utah’s leaders are seeking Donald Trump’s help in having the new Bears Ears National Monument overturned.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that legislators also want to ask the new president to lift national-monument status on large parts of Grand Staircase-Escalante, created by Bill Clinton in 1996. No president has ever tried to undo another president’s national-monument designation, and conservation groups have said they would fight such an effort in court. Presidents have made small changes to monument boundaries.
