This Best Western hotel in Durango could become a designed affordable housing project, if the city's plan to buy it goes through.

The Best Western Hotel Conversion project would bring 120 units of affordable and transitional housing to Durango. Rents would range from $400 for a studio to $1,100 for a two-bedroom. The project could open its doors to residents by 2024. But first, it has to go through a period of due diligence. Durango officials recently approved an extension of that period as evaluations continue on the property.

This story is part of a Rocky Mountain Community Radio reporting collaboration on affordable housing. It's funded by the Solutions Journalism Network.
