Community Spotlight: Good Samaritan Food Pantry (Good Sam's)

The Good Sam's Food Pantry in Cortez provides easy access to food to those who come in to shop.

ABOUT (from goodsamscortez.org)
The Good Samaritan Center is a food pantry and emerging community food center in Cortez, CO. We provide food assistance to anyone who needs it through market-style shopping for supplementary groceries and opportunities to grow food for personal use. Households can shop for groceries up to twice per month.

The donations most needed right now are listed below. These items are more difficult and expensive for the Pantry to get on its own.

  • Meat (preferably frozen): Chicken, beef, etc.
  • Shelf-stable staples: dry milk, peanut butter, seed butter, ghee, canned beans, canned versions of perishable items (i.e. non-dairy milk in a box, evaporated milk), sugar, flour, baking powder, hearty soups, chili, fruit, tomato sauce, jam/jelly, pasta, rice, dry beans, oatmeal, biscuit/pancake mix, syrup, granola, nuts
  • Dairy: Milk, half and half, whipping cream, cheeses, eggs, dairy-free milk, butter, cream cheese
  • Spices: Think about what is on your spice shelf...Salt and pepper, along with other basics like chili powder, seasoned salt, paprika, taco seasoning, curry powder.
  • Drinks/Drink mixes: Coffee, tea, powdered coffee creamer, flavor packs for water bottles
  • Other items include condiments, cooking oil, personal care items

You can also donate funds directly to the organization at goodsamscortez.org/donate

As we were going to set up this segment, the Director of the Center suffered a tragic house fire that has left her and her child displaced. If you would like to find out more, and contribute to their recovery, please head here.

The Center also holds many events including art markets, farming classes, and indoor farmers markets. To keep up with them, head here to follow them on Facebook.
