Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S., yet about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes. KSJD's Jeff Pope talks with Midge Kirk from the Montezuma County Health Department about why tobacco use remains a big health issue in the U.S., and about the Great American Smokeout, an event which is held each year in November to encourage smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit.
