Fifty-five percent of Utah voters favor making the Bears Ears area in San Juan County a national monument.
That’s according to a poll commissioned by the nonprofit Pew Charitable Trusts. The random survey of 600 registered voters found 41 percent opposed the idea. Seventy percent said they believed the 1996 designation of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah was beneficial for tourism. The poll’s margin of error was about 4 percentage points.
