Montezuma County voters approved all four local questions on Tuesday’s general-election ballot, but those results weren’t known until about 5:30 Wednesday morning.
Nearly 13,000 citizens voted, a county record, compared to about 7400 in 2012. Approximately 4300 ballots poured in on Monday and Tuesday. The late deluge overwhelmed the single counting machine and slowed the tally, which was also delayed by concerns about signature discrepancies on some 200 ballots. A referendum giving the county authority to pursue broadband passed easily, as did a similar measure for the town of Dolores. Cortez School District Re-1 voters granted the district authority to use funds originally set aside for a new football stadium to tear down the old high school, by a wide margin. A measure to increase funding for the Mancos Library District also passed.
