Leaders of the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe are calling on the owners of the Navajo Generating Station near Page, Arizona, to keep it in full operation.

The owners have said they may close the coal-burning power plant this year for economic reasons such as competition from cheap natural gas. But the station and the Kayenta coal mine that feeds it provide significant jobs and revenue to both tribes.
