A capital campaign to fund the construction of a new homeless shelter in Cortez is off to a promising start. The Bridge Emergency Shelter, which is being forced to leave its longtime home in the old Justice Building, had announced a challenge grant to raise $20,000 in matching funds by July 1st. In three weeks, more than 50 different individuals and businesses contributed over $60,000. Now, two other donors have pledged $10,000 each for another challenge that will continue through July 31st, or until $80,000 is reached. Shelter Executive Director Laurie Knutson said in a statement, “Our organization is uplifted by so many who want to support new hope.”
