Fees at the Montezuma County Landfill will rise by 3 percent in 2018. The Montezuma County commissioners voted Monday to approve a new landfill budget that includes a hike of $1.22, to $41.79, per ton for trash that is weighed. That rate applies to commercial haulers as well as residents. Manager Shak Powers told the board the increase still leaves fees below state average. However, another change will cut the cost for small amounts of trash by scrapping the current minimum fee of $9 for up to 460 pounds. Instead, users will be charged $2 a bag for up to four bags of trash. The change is intended to help people such as hunters and campers.
