What Stories of Groundbreaking Women in the 1800s Can Teach Us About Today

Margaret (Midge) Kirk, local author and producer of the series "HerStory" has relased a book entitled They Persisted. According to Kirk's description, the book outlines the lives of 21 women born in the 1800's who have done amazing things, but have received little recognition. She came on Morning Edition to talk more about the women in her book, and how their stories relate to current events. Click below to listen.

Austin Cope

Austin Cope is a former Morning Edition host for KSJD and now produces work on a freelance basis for the station. He grew up in Cortez and hosted a show on KSJD when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2010, he lived in Belgium, Ohio, Spain, northern Wyoming, and Himachal Pradesh, India before returning to the Cortez area. He has a degree in Politics from Oberlin College in Ohio.
