New Mexico Reports Uptick in Oil Production

Austin Cope

Oil production in New Mexico has surged over the past few years. The Farmington Daily-Times reports  the state has moved into third place for crude-oil production, thanks largely to a doubling of the per-barrel price since 2016. However, natural-gas production has stayed flat. At a meeting with industry representatives on Friday, the cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, Ken McQueen, said that’s because California, one of the biggest buyers of New Mexico’s natural gas, is moving to other fuel sources.
