Austin Cope

Cortez Public Works Director Phil Johnson is one of the finalists to be the city’s new manager. In a release Wednesday, the city announced it has four finalists so far, with a fifth yet to be confirmed. The other finalists are the town manager of Kremmling, Colorado; the city manager of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and the immediate past city manager of Kingman, Arizona. The public will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at an open house at an unspecified future date.

At Tuesday’s city council meeting, current City Manager Shane Hale, who is leaving to become town manager in Windsor, Colorado, thanked the community as well as current and previous councils for their support. He said he and his family have been extremely happy during their six years in Cortez and the city will always have a piece of his heart.
