Residents in southeastern Utah are experiencing issues with phone and internet services after an oversized truck severed a fiber-optic cable in a crash.
The cable, owned by Frontier Communications, was damaged near Wilson Arch south of Moab, according to the San Juan Record. San Juan County released a statement on Facebook detailing reported specifics on locations unable to connect calls.
Several residents took to social media to complain about Frontier’s susceptibility to hampering the county’s communication access over a single damaged cable, and also questioned the cable’s placement.
Among the issues caused is access to 911 dispatch. San Juan County typically reroutes dispatch north to Grand County but that, too, was affected by the damaged cable. Calls are currently being rerouted to Montezuma County dispatch.
The county expects a dispatch fix should be done by 6 p.m. Wednesday. They could not provide a timeline for when the cable would be repaired.
