Big Game Poachers Sentenced for Organizing Illegal Hunting Expeditions

Colorado Parks and Wildlife

A Nucla, Colorado man who ran an illegal outfitting operation has been sentenced in federal court in Denver.

Gerald Lee Sickels, 42, who had pleaded guilty to one felony charge, will serve a year of intermittent incarceration and a year of probation. His assistant, Jay Remy Grierson, also of Nucla, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor charges and was sentenced in March to two years of probation. Authorities say the men took paying clients to hunt big game. Two Tennessee men among those clients were also charged and paid fines. The investigation was conducted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
