Census Ranks San Juan County, UT as Fastest-Growing in U.S.

San Juan County, Utah, had the highest rate of growth by percentage of any county in the nation in the period from July 2015 to July 2016.

The U.S. Census Bureau says the county, home to the new Bears Ears National Monument, added about 1200 residents, enough to boost the population by 7.56 percent. At the other end of the spectrum, San Juan County, New Mexico, saw the eighth-largest decline nationwide over the same period, in terms of actual numbers. That county lost about 3600 of its residents in a single year, largely because of a cutback in oil and gas production.
