Montezuma County Announces 2 New COVID-19 Cases, Total of 8

The Montezuma County Public Health Department announced two new cases of COVID-19 Saturday.

This brings the county's total of positive cases to eight, including one death. The county's first case was announced one week ago.

Additional demographic information, including location and age, will not be provided by the health department. Identifying and contacting people who have recently been with infected individuals is underway, according to a statement from the department.

Echoing its announcement of the county’s first case, MCPHD is reminding the public to follow the statewide stay-at-home order, in addition to reevaluating what you consider to be essential travel and thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water.

Southwest Medical Group COO Kerri White-Singleton said it's important to understand the range and impact of COVID-19 throughout the country - and to hold others accountable in following public health orders and guidelines.

"Start telling people that you know that this is the time that we really need to adhere," White-Singleton said Thursday.

On Friday, Gov. Jared Polis said all Coloradans should wear cloth maskswhen leaving their homes. The federal governement issued a similar recommendation on the same day.
