More than 9 pounds of processed marijuana and $20,000 in cash were reportedly found in the room of a 20-year-old Cortez man, Samuel Gordon, who was shot to death early Tuesday in La Plata County.

In a news release, the Durango Police Department says the pot, which was in plastic bags and glass jars marked with product information, was obviously “black market marijuana” being illegally distributed. Four Arizona men ages 19 to 22 have been arrested in the murder, which is believed to have been part of an attempted robbery. Police say 5 1/2 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine was seized from the suspects’ vehicles. The crime remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 970-382-5029.
