Why Colorado Coal Plants Won't Close Early After All

Colorado regulators proposed early closures for three coal-fired power plants to improve air quality and fight climate change. Then they reversed the decision a month later. Jodi Peterson reports on the proposal and why it was abandoned. This story was produced as part of a collaborative project reporting on the impacts of fossil fuels, coordinated by the Rocky Mountain Community Radio Coalition.

Jodi Peterson
Jodi grew up on Colorado’s Front Range and attended Colorado State University, earning a B.A. in English and an M.A. in communication development. She spent 16 years working as a technical communicator with computer company Hewlett-Packard, then made a career shift to journalism. Shortly after completing an internship with High Country News, in 2004, she was hired as the organization’s news editor; later she served as managing editor for five years. In 2017, she transitioned to contributing editor, a part-time position. She also works as the executive assistant for The Nature Connection, a Hotchkiss-based nonprofit dedicated to getting local youth into the outdoors for learning and fun. She's excited to help KVNF create expanded news coverage to better serve the communities we reach.
