Abandoned Mine Clean Up

Sierra Club

Originally aired in February of 2014, before the Gold King Mine waste spill into the Animas River on August 5th, 2015.

Abandoned mines across the west many times drain water that is contaminated by heavy metals and other pollutants. KSJD's Tom Yoder talks with documentary video producer Tom Schillaci and Peter Butler from the Animas River Stakeholders Group about how their efforts to clean up these mines is hampered by legislation that places liability on them under the Clean Water Act.
