Highway 145: Single Lane Opens at Rock Slide Repairs

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced that Colorado state Highway 145 will resume through traffic at the site of a recent rock slide.

After hauling the fragments of a blasted boulder, CDOT opened a temporary single lane for alternating traffic. Portable traffic lights are set up near the ongoing road repairs at mile marker 21.

A statement issued by CDOT said to expect delays up to an hour during construction. A construction crew will begin work tomorrow and spend an estimated one to two weeks on the project.

Prior to Monday’s reopening, travel through the closure was restricted to local residents and business owners.

Friday’s rock slide included two massive boulders. One boulder, estimated at 2.3 million pounds, landed on the highway and was blasted Sunday evening. The other, estimated at 8.5 million pounds, carved an eight-foot trench before landing on the other side of the highway. CDOT says it may remain in its new location. Property owners have not requested its removal.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
