Ruthie Foster: A Texas Vocal Powerhouse

Mary Keating Bruton
Ruthie Foster

Coming from humble roots in the Lone Star State, singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster has built a career around her amazing voice, leading her to share stages with Bonnie Raitt, the Allman Brothers, and Susan Tedeschi. KSJD's Music Director Mike McAllister spoke with Foster about her live performances, how she is coping with being a musician during the coronavirus pandemic, and her latest album "Live at the Paramount" that she recorded with a big band at Austin's Paramount Theater.

Michael McAllister has been deeply involved in music for over 30 years. He earned his BA in Music from The University of North Texas (Cum Laude '94), and upon graduation, embarked on a career in teaching and performance. Michael has taught guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, saxophone, voice, and DJing both privately and at the college level, and still performs live as a singer/songwriter and a live DJ. In that time he has produced 2 entire albums (Cosmic Accident 2004, 2007) and contributed to countless others. He is currently the KSJD Music Director.
