Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke finished a two-day tour of the Bears Ears National Monument Tuesday.
Though he did not hold any public appearances, he met privately with some monument supporters and critics. At a press conference Tuesday morning at the Dugout Ranch near Indian Creek, Zinke said he noticed in his conversations how deeply people care about the land.
"If I was hearing people saying different things, I'd be worried," he said, "but I'm really not."
The Secretary has not recommended removing or keeping the monument designation, but he says the solution could be more nuanced than either of those options. President Trump expects a recommendation on the monument in about one month. Zinke continues his monument review at Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument today.
