More than 52,000 members of the Navajo Nation are set to have their voting registration canceled for not voting in the 2014 presidential election or the 2016 chapter elections. The Navajo Times reports the purge is required by tribal law, but there is plenty of time to re-register before August. That’s when the nation will hold elections for its president and tribal council. The Times says one reason so many people register and then don’t vote is that registration is a requirement for applying for a tribal scholarship.
