Health and Prevention Report: Mental Health & the Holidays for Native and Indigenous People

Tracy Lee for NPR

With holidays in full swing, mental health is on high alert.

Native and Indigenous people in America report experiencing serious psychological distress 2.5 times more than the general population over a month's time.

In this week’s Health and Prevention report, KSJD’s Sofia Stuart-Rasi talks with Kelly Ray Vallo, a Behavioral Health Case Manager for Native Health … a health center for Native Americans in Arizona.

And Vallo says past cultural barriers need to be broken in order to recover.

Health and prevention reporting on KSJD is made possible with the support of Celebrating Healthy Communities, the Montezuma County Health Department, and Southwest Health System.
