White House Proposes $1.1 Billion Cut to Public Broadcasting Funding

Last week, the White House announced plans to ask Congress to rescind $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). That’s two years of funding, and it would disproportionately affect smaller stations, especially those in our region.

Breeze Richardson, board chair of Rocky Mountain Community Radio, says that while stations like Aspen Public Radio can weather the impact thanks to a strong donor base, others in the region rely heavily on CPB funding, with some stations depending on it for as much as 30% of their budget.

Richardson urges listeners to call Congress and voice support for public radio, reminding us that even a simple message can make a difference.

KSJD is a member of Rocky Mountain Community Radio, and also receives CBP Funding.
