How Leadership Montezuma Builds Community Leaders in the Four Corners

Leadership Montezuma has been shaping local leaders for almost 30 years — with hundreds of Montezuma County residents completing its hands-on training. LP McKay talks with Montezuma Leadership Network's Matt Keefauver about how the organization's two-year program introduces participants to local governance, education, and cultural institutions through immersive “theme days” and behind-the-scenes access to places like the jail, landfill, and sanitation district.

They discuss how the program was rebuilt after COVID-19, the recent graduation held at the Sunflower Theatre, and how graduates return to plan future sessions. With so many new residents entering the community post-pandemic, MLN sees its mission as more important than ever: helping people understand how the community works, building relationships, and supporting local leadership.

Listeners can support Montezuma Leadership Network through the Onward! Foundation during Colorado Gives Day.

LP recently moved to the Four Corners from Austin, Texas, where they worked as a Case Manager for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and in HOA property management where they were fortunate to learn many different styles of communication and creative thinking/problem solving. In their time away from work, they watch a ton of movies (spanning all decades, nationalities, and genres), and tries to listen to one really good album every day.
