The Farm Bill is renewed about every five years, and it's complexity creates a lot of political wrangling during the negotiation leading up to passage. The 2014 Farm Billexpenditures will amount to almost 490 billion dollars, with 80% of that spent on nutrition programs.
The 2014 Bill was supposed to be passed in 2012, but was held up because of the complexity of revenue insurance programs and the lack of agreement between the various commodity organizations. The Nutrition Title was a sticking point in 2014, and will probably play an important role in the 2018 Bill.
