Don Coram Talks Priorities During Colorado’s Legislative Break

Colorado state lawmakers are coming to the end of a two-week adjournment from the capitol, part of their own effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. But that break is expected to be extended, adding to the debate over whether the legislature should still end as scheduled on May 6.

Republican Sen. Don Coram represents southwest Colorado, including Montezuma and Dolores counties, in the state senate. Whenever the legislative session resumes, Coram says lawmakers’ constitutional obligation will turn toward the state budget, leaving other bills on the back burner.

“We’ll wait and see. I don’t have the crystal ball,” Coram said. “I think that’s the direction that we’re heading.”

Coram spoke with KSJD on what he’s been working on during the adjournment and the thoughts he’s heard on a possible general session extension or a call for a special session.
