Montezuma County 2020 General Election Results

KSJD is tracking live results for Montezuma County’s general election and for two state offices representing the area.  Updated at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday

The Colorado Secretary of State's office reports Montezuma County has submitted its full preliminary results.

Montezuma County Races

District Attorney - 22nd Judicial District

Republican Matthew Gregory Margeson is uncontested in the general election. He will be replacing District Attorney Will Furse, who is term-limited.

Montezuma County Commissioner - District 2

Republican Kent Lindsay is uncontested in the general election. He will be replacing Commissioner Keenan Ertel, who is term-limited.

Montezuma County Commissioner - District 3

Republican Joel Ira Stevenson has won a seat on the Montezuma County Commission, beating unaffiliated candidate Rebecca Samulski by a 15-point margin. Stevenson will be replacing Commissioner Larry Don Suckla, who is term-limited.

Joel Stevenson - 8,554 votes (57.43%)
Rebecca Samulski - 6,340 votes (42.57%)
 

Colorado State Office Races

Note: The following races include results from across the districts they represent, not just Montezuma County.

State Board of Education Member - Representing the 3rd Congressional District 

Incumbent Republican Joyce Rankin is facing Democrat Mayling Simpson in the race for a seat on the Colorado State Board of Education, representing the 3rd Congressional District.

Joyce Rankin - 217,374 (54.70%)
Mayling Simpson - 180,028 (45.30%)
 

State House Representative - District 58

Incumbent Republican Marc Catlin is facing Democrat Seth Cagin in the race to represent Colorado's 58th District in the state house.

Marc Catlin - 29,235 (64.91%)
Seth Cagin - 15,806 (35.09%) 

Austin Cope is a former Morning Edition host for KSJD and now produces work on a freelance basis for the station. He grew up in Cortez and hosted a show on KSJD when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2010, he lived in Belgium, Ohio, Spain, northern Wyoming, and Himachal Pradesh, India before returning to the Cortez area. He has a degree in Politics from Oberlin College in Ohio.
