The identity of a fugitive who killed himself at a home outside Cortez earlier this month has been released. Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin says 67-year-old Daniel R. Thrasher of Missouri Valley, Iowa, had been wanted on a federal warrant for possession for child pornography and had a record of similar offenses. He was staying at a home on Highway 145 when the sheriff was notified by Homeland Security of his possible presence. When confronted, Thrasher shot himself despite Nowlin’s efforts to dissuade him.
