Cortez Airport Manager Russ Machen said that Boutique Air, the airport's new Essential Air Service provider, will use smaller planes than the Cortez airport has seen in a long time

The Cortez City Council agreed unanimously on Tuesday to surrender an airport operating certification that allows the airport to accept aircraft with 10 or more seats.

Airport Manager Russ Machen said the facility hasn’t received that size of craft in two years and won’t in the foreseeable future because the new Essential Air Service provider, Boutique Air, will utilize smaller planes. Machen said surrendering the certification will save on new equipment and additional staff that would otherwise be required.
