Mesa Verde Cancels 2016 Luminaria Night

Mesa Verde National Park has canceled its holiday open house and luminaria-lighting because of concerns about the stability of a rock arch over the Spruce Tree House cliff dwelling.

The park traditionally presents a December event that includes placing lanterns in the site, but park officials  say that would be dangerous because of possible rockfall. The site has been closed to visitors since October 2015 while ways are sought to stabilize it.
