The week of April 3rd is National Public Health Week. To recognize it, the Montezuma County Public Health Department will hold an open house on Tuesday April 4th from 4 to 6pm at their offices on North Street in Cortez. The department says it will be “celebrating the power of prevention, advocating for healthy and fair policies, sharing strategies for successful partnerships and championing the role of a strong public health system.” For an update on the state of public health in Montezuma County in general, KSJD's Austin Cope talked to Bobbi Lock, director of the Montezuma County Health Department.

Austin Cope is a former Morning Edition host for KSJD and now produces work on a freelance basis for the station. He grew up in Cortez and hosted a show on KSJD when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2010, he lived in Belgium, Ohio, Spain, northern Wyoming, and Himachal Pradesh, India before returning to the Cortez area. He has a degree in Politics from Oberlin College in Ohio.
