The Montezuma County commissioners voted Monday to move forward with a planned cornerstone ceremony by the Cortez Masonic Lodge for the new county courthouse.

Jerry Brooks of the Masonic Lodge said the Masons have been conducting identical ceremonies for public buildings since the 13th century. They will provide the cornerstone and a time capsule. The commissioners said they hope the ceremony can take place in August. A justice from the state Supreme Court is supposed to come for the event.
