A religious monument will be coming down in the city of Bloomfield in northern New Mexico. The Farmington Daily-Times reports that the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to let stand an appeals-court ruling that a Ten Commandments monument outside Bloomfield City Hall is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. The monument was erected by a private group in 2011 in a special area that also includes monuments to historic documents such as the Declaration of Independence. But another group challenged the placement. An attorney for a nonprofit called the Alliance Defending Freedom, which fought to keep the monument, told the Daily-Times he had hoped the Supreme Court would clarify if and when Ten Commandments monuments can be placed on public property.
