About two dozen supporters of Bears Ears National Monument gathered at Sand Canyon west of Cortez on Saturday to protest President Trump’s decision to downsize the monument. They carried signs and gave speeches calling for the area to retain its more-protected status. Meanwhile, the Crow Canyon Archeological Center near Cortez released a statement saying Bears Ears should stay at its original size “to best ensure the long-term protection of this remarkable cultural landscape.”
