"Talon Tales," from the Raven Narratives, Will Highlight the Power of Youth Storytelling

Tom Yoder

Local high school students will be the focus of the next live storytelling event in the Four Corners. The Raven Narratives will host its next storytelling event, "Talon Tales," on Friday and Saturday, February 9th and 10th, at the Sunflower Theatre in Cortez and at the Durango Arts Center. It will feature live storytelling by students from Animas High School in Durango and Southwest Open School in Cortez.  KSJD's Austin Cope spoke with Sarah Syverson and Tom Yoder, Co-producers of the Raven Narratives, about what to expect from the event, recent changes to the Raven Narratives' structure, and the power of storytelling. Tickets to "Talon Tales" are available at www.sunflowertheatre.org

Austin Cope is a former Morning Edition host for KSJD and now produces work on a freelance basis for the station. He grew up in Cortez and hosted a show on KSJD when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2010, he lived in Belgium, Ohio, Spain, northern Wyoming, and Himachal Pradesh, India before returning to the Cortez area. He has a degree in Politics from Oberlin College in Ohio.
