Dolores County School District Superintendent Bruce Hankins is leaving his position after eight years. The Re-2J board voted 3 to 1 at a special meeting last week to rescind its previous non-renewal of Hankins’ contract and accept his resignation. Following a two-hour-long executive session during which the board spoke with numerous staff members, board secretary Heather Leggett told the audience that the board was leaning toward hiring an in-house superintendent. The board had held a retreat the previous night at a Mexican restaurant in Cortez to discuss the superintendent search. None of the board members responded to a request for comment from KSJD.
