The Mancos Conservation District won overwhelming approval Tuesday for a mill levy of a half-mill. The Cortez Journal reports the vote was 315 to 199, or 61 to 39 percent. The approximately $18,000 the levy will raise will go toward operating costs and paying a director. A similar election for the High Desert Conservation District was canceled after some irregularities in the process became apparent.
