In this episode Stephen talks with Helen West of Cortez Tours. Helen lives in Cortez, Colorado with her husband and two adorable cats. In addition to working as the Community & Economic Development Specialist for the City of Cortez and teaches private music lessons. Cortez Tours specializes in guided walking tours at the beginning and end of the days. A sunrise tour at Hawkins Preserve focuses on the cultural and natural history of the area while the evening ghost tours, offered Thursdays, Friday, and Saturdays, focuses on the darker history of the humans that have inhabited Montezuma Valley for centuries. The Wild West Ghost Tour is rooted - just as everything Cortez Tours does - in telling history through exciting stories. Ghost stories are often about regular everyday people, stories the history books often leave out, and give a glimpse into what it might have been like to live in the past. (Ghost stories are also just plain fun!) Helen, the founder of Cortez Tours, wanted to bring these stories from this quaint, rural western town to live through the Wild West Ghost Tour.
