A question about a mill-levy override for the Montezuma-Cortez Re-1 school district is missing from the ballots mailed to a portion of voters in the school district. Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder Kim Percell told KSJD that voters who live in Director District D of the school district were mistakenly mailed ballots without the question, but new ballots will be sent to them soon. The missing question involves whether to approve a mill-levy override of 3.9 mills to increase salaries for teachers and paraprofessionals. Percell said the wrong ballots were sent to about a thousand people. The majority of voters in the school district received the correct ballots and will not be getting new ones. Percell said anyone who was mailed the wrong ballot and has already turned that ballot in should go ahead and vote again using the second ballot they receive. She said if a second ballot is received from a voter, that one will be counted and the first will be discarded. Depending on where they live, Montezuma County voters receive ballots with different local questions. For instance, voters in Dolores School District Re-4 are being asked to extend an existing mill levy and therefore receive different ballots than voters in School District Re-1. Percell said there about 13 different “ballot styles” in the county. She said anyone with questions or concerns about their ballot should call her office.
