Voters will have many decisions to make in the Nov. 3 election.
In addition to deciding which candidates they favor, Colorado voters have a whopping 14 statewide ballot questions to evaluate.
In Montezuma County, people will have two or three more ballot questions to consider, depending on where they live.
County clerk and recorder Kim Percell spoke about the ballot at the county commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday.
There are four local measures, two of those countywide. One seeks voter approval for raising the county lodgers tax from its current 2 percent to 5 percent The other asks whether voters want to eliminate mandatory term limits for the county assessor, surveyor, treasurer, and clerk and recorder.
In addition, voters in Cortez are being asked to raise the city lodgers’ tax from its current 2 percent to 6 percent. And Mancos residents will decide whether to increase the town’s sales tax from 4 percent to 4.4 percent, with the additional revenues going to street and broadband improvements and maintenance.
Percell said ballots will be mailed out Oct. 5.
Her office has also sent a letter to registered voters between 17 and 25 years of age telling them that their voter registration file includes only one signature or no signature at all.
Because the clerk’s office uses signatures to verify mail ballots during an election, these voters are being asked to provide an additional signature.
“The public may think these are a scam, but these are actually coming from the clerk’s office” and have her letterhead on them, she told the commissioners.
