Critical Fire Weather Persists in Southwest Colorado

Ways To Subscribe

Red Flag Warnings remain in effect this afternoon and evening for southwest Colorado, as gusty winds and very low humidity continue to create dangerous fire conditions.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler today—topping out in the upper 80s to low 90s—but conditions are still dry, and isolated lightning from high-terrain storms could spark new fires.

We'll see a brief cooldown on Wednesday, but by Thursday, the heat ramps up again with triple-digit highs likely in the lower valleys and winds gusting up to 35 miles per hour by the weekend.

Fire danger will intensify through Saturday as dry air, strong southwest winds, and hot temperatures persist, especially in southern and western Colorado.

This extended stretch of critical fire weather will put added stress on already dry fuels, so please be extra cautious with any outdoor activity that could spark a flame.
