Phil here with your latest Boggy Draw Trail Report for Friday, July 11.
Expect highs in the low 90s for Dolores and Cortez this weekend, with windy conditions continuing—gusts could reach over 20 miles per hour. Up in Rico, it’ll be cooler, but wind and afternoon storms are possible, so be prepared for quickly changing weather, especially if you’re heading into higher elevations.
Sunscreen and hydration will be must-haves again this weekend. Consider riding early or late in the day—those midday rides can be brutal in the heat.
Recent rides at Boggy Draw showed trails in decent shape, though signs of a heavy downpour are still visible. Dusty and silty conditions are back, according to reports from local riders. The Circle Trail is in good condition, with no trees down, while Morrison Trail is a bit overgrown but still passable—just watch for one downed tree that will require lifting your bike. Reiman Creek Trail is open, but some trees still need to be cleared, and it’ll take more riding to fully break in the trail.
A big thanks to the dedicated volunteers with SWCCA for their Tuesday night trail work! The Mancos Trails Alliance is also hosting a workday this Saturday at the Upper Chicken Creek Trailhead for anyone looking to help out.
Looking ahead, fall registration is now open for High Desert Devo classes, with a few spots remaining in late summer programs.
